Women and Girls' Cricket

Essex Girls’ Cricket Festival

On Bank Holiday Monday (May 2) the Essex Women's Cricket Association organised a Girls’ Cricket Festival. Four teams of Under-11 and Under-13 girls from all over the County took part in a mini tournament, hosted by Harold Wood Cricket Club.

Nearly 40 girls joined in the day and, to help and encourage the younger girls that took part, each team was managed by one of the County Girls U-15 Squad (all of which were part of the Harold Wood Lady Taverners National Champions Team).

David Letch, who is the new Community Cricket Coach for Essex and Under-11 Coach, said:

"This Festival shows the strength of Girls' Cricket in Essex. Everyone had a good time and I hope that all of the girls will be enthused to continue to play cricket for their clubs and go on to have a successful County season.”

  Spirit of the Game

"Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within the Laws, but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to game itself."
