Essex U11 Girls' Match Report
On Sunday 15th May the Essex Girls U11 team began their season of friendly games against Hertfordshire at Billericay C.C.

Winning the toss the Essex captain elected to field first, in this 25 overs match the Essex bowlers were soon among the wickets and with the fielders alert they restricted
Hertfordshire to 75 for 7 off of their allotted 25 overs.

The Essex opening batters were in good form, both retiring with their scores in the twenties. By this time, after 9 overs the match was as good as won. Hertfordshire sportingly stayed out until all of their 25 overs were bowled allowing all of the Essex batters to have time at the crease.

The following week, the 22nd May, the girls played a combined U9 and U10 boys county trialist team. The girls bowled and fielded well with two superb catches but their batting let them down. Lesson were learnt against an enthusiastic boys side which hopefully the girls can take into their next match.

  Spirit of the Game

"Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within the Laws, but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to game itself."
