Under 13s are HCCA Counties Festival Champions
The U-13's won the HCCA Counties Festival which took place at Haileybury School on Wednesday 1 June.

Nine counties took part in the day's cricket. The teams were split into 3 groups of 3 for the first round of matches. Each game was 8 overs per innings and the teams were made up of 8 players.

In the initial group, Essex had to play Middlesex and Oxfordshire. The first match against Middlesex, the girls fielded first and restricted Middlesex to 32-5 from their 8 overs, Catherine Dalton taking 4 wickets for 4 runs from her 2 overs. Essex got to this target for the loss of just 2 wickets. This set up a group decider against Oxfordshire. Essex batted first this time and scored 46 from their 8 overs, and then restricted Oxford to 36-5, to win the match and finish top of the Group.

In the match against Kent, Essex batted first and posted a big score of 62-3 in their 8 overs. This was always going to be enough runs and the girls bowled and fielded well to restrict Kent to 37-7. This set up a “final” against Sussex who had also beaten Kent. Suusex batted and posted a good score of 46-4. Essex began the chase well scoring 16 of the first two overs, but then lost a couple of quick wickets.   Spirit of the Game

"Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within the Laws, but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to game itself."
