Essex U11 side host Sussex at Little Waltham Cricket Club

On Sunday 5th June Essex U11 side hosted Sussex at Little Waltham Cricket Club.

Again winning the toss the Essex captain put Sussex into bat, the two Sussex openers were two experienced cricketers who put 40 runs on the board very quickly, they had not however taken into account the much improved Essex fielding and with two run outs Sussex run rate slowed down. The main run scorer of the two openers retired and this further restricted their run rate. Essex continued to bowl and field well and by the 23rd over had Sussex 9 wickets down, this brought back in the hard hitting opener who hit a quick 12 in 3 balls before being bowled by the Essex captain. Sussex reaching 131 all out.

The Essex reply started slowly against some tight bowling, however after 5 overs the scoring rate started to increased until the Essex captain also retired. The girls that followed all batted very sensibly until two good catches by the Sussex wicket keeper dismissed the main run scorers. At 7 wickets down and a batter retired Essex tail end could not quite force the scoring rate enough to win, at the end of their allotted 25 overs Essex were 119 for 7 a loss of just 12 runs.

  Spirit of the Game

"Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within the Laws, but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to game itself."
