Essex win through against Berkshire

The U-15’s travelled to Maidenhead on Sunday 3 July for a league match against Berkshire in the South East Division. A hard fought game saw Essex record their fourth win of the season.

Essex batted first and despite a good run rate, they lost wickets at regular intervals, with no partnerships being formed. Helped by a couple of generous decisions the home side at one stage reduced Essex to 85 for 8. Holding up one end through this was Danielle Armes with a superb display of concentration and technique in not the easiest of batting conditions. She eventually found a partner in Emma Stubbings and they put on 62 for the last wicket taking the score to 147, Emma scoring 18. Danielle carried her bat for 47 not out, including some fine boundaries at the end.

Berkshire’s reply started well despite a run out in the first over, and good batting from Elanor Piper (38) kept them in the hunt for a while. However a good spell of bowling from Amy Mistry – taking 3 for 6 in 5 overs – changed the match and Berkshire finished on 73 for 7 from 35 overs. A win for Essex by 74 runs.

Essex 147 all out (30.1 overs)
Danielle Armes 47 not out, Emma Stubbings 18

Berkshire 73-7 (35 overs)
Amy Mistry 5-3-6-3

  Spirit of the Game

"Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within the Laws, but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to game itself."
