Essex Women U17 against Berkshire
Essex Women U17s gave a rather disappointing
batting performance against Berkshire U17s at Shenfield
CC on Sunday 3rd July. Having won the toss and elected to
bat wickets fell cheaply.
Lizzie Giles (22) supplied the only brief hope of posting
a reasonable total but when she was caught and bowled with
the total on 65 the remaining 4 wickets went for the addition
of only 5 more runs. Berkshire got off to a brisk start
in reply and although losing 5 wickets in the process made
the required total in only 14 overs. One wicket apiece to
Eliza Smith and Jackie Hilton but the pick of the Essex
bowlers was Lauren Evans who took 3 wickets in a 3 over
spell for only 9 runs. One other statistic of note was that
there were no no-balls bowled in the entire match!
Essex v Middlesex (U11)
The Essex U11 side entertained Middlesex U11,s at little
Waltham Cricket Club on Sunday 3rd July. Middlesex arrived
with two players short but Essex with 13 players were able
to loan them players.
Essex batted first but lost their normally
reliable captain early on, tight Middlesex bowling kept
the score down until the arrival of the Essex middle order,
some hard hitting by these batters pushed the Essex score
along to 105 for 6 wickets from their allotted 25 overs.
Middlesex started briskly but good fielding
from the Essex girls resulted in two run outs, the retirement
of the Middlesex captain also slowed down the run rate until,
after loosing a number of quick wickets, she came back to
the crease. With the score getting closer to the required
106 needed this batter was superbly caught and bowled by
the Essex captain. The match was now left poised, with two
overs left and Middlesex having one wicket in hand and requiring
12 runs to win. The Middlesex batters added five runs in
the penultimate over leaving them seven to score off the
last. The Essex bowler chosen to bowl the last over rose
to the occasion and after bowling three dot balls she had
the last wicket superbly caught at short mid off for a victory
for Essex.
