Under 13s Win against Buckinghamshire

The U-13 Essex team continued their winning ways by completing the double over Buckinghamshire away at The Lee Cricket Club on Sunday 3rd July.

Essex won the toss and stand-in skipper Beth MacGregor decided that she wanted a bat. This turned out to be a very good decision with the opening “brace of Beth’s” (Beth MacGregor and Beth Langston) putting on an opening stand of 91 in 18 overs. Beth MacGregor was finally caught out for 51 in the 19th over for a maiden half century. Beth Langston went on to bat the full 30 overs ending on a fine 55 not out, to score her second 50 of the season. Following a brief 4 from Victoria Yates, Catherine Dalton joined Beth in the 22nd over and scored a quick 22 not out elevating Essex’s final score to a respectable 155 for 2 wickets from its allotted 30 overs.

Buckinghamshire’s top 3 batswomen batted intelligently and at times aggressively to put pressure on the Essex bowlers, scoring a brisk 61 runs for 1 wicket off the first 10 overs. However, in a fine spell of bowling from Tia Moore, Buckinghamshire were reduced to 88 for 5 wickets and Tia finished with figures of 3 for 3 off her 3 overs. A couple of crucial catches from Victoria Yates and Elissa Penketh, off the bowling of Beth MacGregor and Tia Moore removed the danger batswomen. This effectively ended Buckinghamshire’s run chase, who ended the 30 overs on 116 for 6, with Essex winning by 39 runs.

  Spirit of the Game

"Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within the Laws, but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to game itself."
