Under 13s Win Away Against Middlesex

The U-13’s played their away league game against Middlesex at Dame Alice Grounds, Chandos Avenue, Barnet on 20th August 2005.

Essex won the toss and skipper Lauren Onojaife put Middlesex into bat on a very damp pitch. Middlesex were soon in trouble as Catherine Dalton took a wicket in her first over and were soon two down with a superb run out. Middlesex lost wickets on a regular basis with all bowlers bowling well. Middlesex only managed 57 all out on the damp wicket.

The Essex side came to the wicket with openers Jennifer Lees and Tia Moore quickly off the mark with 21 on the board inside 4 overs before Tia was run out on 2. Christina Low batted well for her 4 runs, which brought Rebecca Reid to the wicket who batted sensibly. When Jennifer Lees was caught out in the 11th over for a score of 21, this brought Hannah Courtnell to the wicket. Hannah and Rebecca saw Essex home in the 15th over with scores of 10 and 11 not out respectively.

Middlesex 57 all out
Hannah Courtnell 2-11
Essex 58-3
Won by 7 wickets

  Spirit of the Game

"Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within the Laws, but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to game itself."
