Fundamental Movement Skills Programme

ECCB Fundamentals Movement Skills Programme using striking and fielding.

Aim
– To provide all children with a foundation of overall athletic skills in addition to basic striking, throwing and catching skills with the emphasis on fun and participation.

Facilities – Activity can take place outdoors or inside in a hall or gym during the colder months. ECCB coach will provide all equipment for the programme, e.g., bats, balls, stumps, etc.

Rationale – Evidence suggests that physical activity is declining in young people along with co-ordination and athletic ability, with an increase in sedentary hobbies. Cricket along with other governing bodies of sport are adopting the Long Term Athlete Development model, which focuses upon windows of opportunity to enhance players abilities and performances. Fundamental, multi skills, the ABC`S of physical literacy (agility, balance, co-ordination and speed) combined with basic skill development begin especially important at ages 6-11.

Programme – ECCB will delivery a 5-6 week coaching programme around these principles:

Movement:
Ability to run, jump, throw, translation of self or objects by walking, running, leaping, skipping, sliding, bounding, jumping, landing, hopping, throwing, rotating and diving.

Co-ordination:
Translation and control of the body and objects linking to other movements in jumping sequences, multiple body parts movements, object movement (throwing, catching, striking and balancing), reaction speed, dexterity and ambidextrousness.

Body awareness/ balance:
Spatial awareness, posture, body and limb positions, balance, ability to use speed and power under control, proprioception, decision making, kinaesthesia, awareness of environment and conditions.

Outcomes – Improvement in the all round athletic ability of young people within a multiplicity of movements, balances and body awareness allied to fun and enjoyment with a catching, striking and fielding environment.

  Spirit of the Game

"Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within the Laws, but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to game itself."
