Fundamental Movement Skills
Programme
Week One
Warm up
North, South, East, West.
Class split into four groups, groups sent to four
areas, coach designates the areas as either N.S.E.W. or
indicates the areas with coloured cones. Children are
then moved around the areas after first being warned that
they must be aware of their own space and what happens
if we invade each other’s space.
Main Theme
Stopping/rolling and catching.
(Balance, agility and spatial awareness, reaction time
and speed)
E.g., One hand intercept, two-hand intercept. Differentiated
as appropriate.
Catching. E.g., Close catching, simple to complex (one
hand, cover eyes, increase number of balls, size, different
objects)
Game Activity
Ball Stealing.
To incorporate skills learnt in the main theme.
Split group into 5 teams, each team has a ring, position
groups in circle around another ring, this ring is filled
with tennis balls. Groups race to transfer balls from
central ring to own ring by, rolling, bouncing, and throwing.
Comments
During the game the coach encourages spatial awareness.
