The Essex County Cricket Board Development Department aims to develop the game of cricket at all levels from grass roots to excellence in the County of Essex and the five Essex-based London Boroughs. The guidelines for the six sections that underpin the basis for the Department's plan for progression are available in full via this website.

The 'ECCB Development Plan' provides a comprehensive outline of the objectives of the department as it strives to take the game forward in the region. The recently added 'Strategic Plan' explains how the ECCB intends to increase the level of active involvement in the game.

  Spirit of the Game

"Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within the Laws, but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to game itself."
